SHORT BREAKS AT THE FOUNDATION

We endeavour to provide a stimulating and nurturing environment for all disabled young people attending our setting.

📍 The Foundation

The Foundation is Chapter One’s brand-new home in Gloucester, a purpose-built space designed with children and young people at its heart.
We proudly welcome families from across Gloucestershire and the surrounding areas.

Our service is open to disabled children and young people aged 5 to 18, and up to 25 for those with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in place.

We support a wide range of needs, including those with complex disabilities and special educational needs.

Support is available at 2:1, 1:1, or group levels, depending on what each individual needs to feel safe, included, and supported.

🌟 A Place to Thrive

The Foundation is more than a building; it’s a place where children and young people can grow, learn, and have fun while families enjoy a much-needed break.

As part of our daily support, we also work closely with parents, carers, social workers, and professionals to help each young person work towards meaningful outcomes. This might include building confidence, improving communication, developing social skills, or gaining more independence in daily life.

We know how demanding caring responsibilities can be. The Foundation offers families not just a break, but peace of mind, knowing their child is safe, supported, and enjoying time in a space built just for them.

🧩 Tailored Support for Every Young Person

Every child is unique, and so is the support we provide.

We take time to understand each young person’s needs, routines, likes, and dislikes. Whether support is required at 2:1, 1:1, or in a small group, we build a plan that feels right for them.

We work closely with families, carers, and external professionals, including the PBS team, to make sure we are approaching things in the most informed and consistent way. This includes sharing what works well, what doesn’t, and adapting our plans as needed to keep things effective and supportive.

Our goal is to ensure that every young person receives care that feels joined up, thoughtful, and built around them.

👋 Getting Started

If you think The Foundation might be the right fit for your child, we’d love to hear from you.

You can get in touch using the contact form at the bottom of this page, or speak to your social worker for advice. We accept referrals from parents, carers, social workers, schools, and local authorities.

Once a referral has been received, we’ll ask for permission to carry out a school visit so we can get a full picture of your child’s support needs.

Alternatively, we can offer a stay and play session at The Foundation. This gives your child a chance to explore the space and meet our team, while giving us the time to understand how best to support them.

🤝 Supporting Families, Every Step of the Way

Our aim is simple: to create a space where young people can thrive, and where families feel supported, heard, and able to take a breath when they need it most.

Whether a child has complex needs or just needs somewhere safe and joyful to be, we’re here to help. From after-school sessions to weekend and holiday support, we shape our services around the real lives of the families we work with.

🌈 A Space Built on Positivity

Everything within The Foundation has been designed to encourage positive behaviour, positive experiences, and positive connections for every young person who walks through our doors.

The Foundation isn’t just a service; it’s a home for creativity, learning, and belonging.
A place where every child is seen, supported, and celebrated.
