📘 Learning, Growing, Thriving: Our Education & Mentoring Offer

Education is at the heart of everything we do.
Our Education & Mentoring programme provides personalised guidance and support for children and young people with disabilities, helping them grow in confidence, build essential life skills, and reach their full potential.

This provision is based in Gloucester and runs during term time only, Monday to Friday, 9am to 3.30pm.

🎯 What’s It All About?

Our aim is simple: to support children and young people in re-engaging with learning in a way that feels right for them.

We work closely with local authorities, SEN schools, and alternative provision schools to design bespoke packages of education and mentoring, tailored to each learner’s strengths, needs, and goals.

These are usually 1:1 packages, giving space for trust to build between mentor and young person. As relationships grow, we often introduce group opportunities to encourage teamwork, friendship-building, and confidence in a classroom-style setting.

Every child follows a personalised independence programme, developed with their mentor. This can include:

  • Advice and guidance

  • Life and practical skills

  • Health and wellbeing support

  • Core education aligned to their curriculum level

  • Emotional resilience and confidence-building

We want every young person to feel seen, heard, and supported in a way that works for them.

👥 Working as a Team

We believe collaboration is key to progress.

That’s why we stay in regular contact with the key adults involved in a young person’s life, whether that’s parents, carers, schools, social workers, or other professionals. We attend EHCP reviews, Team Around the Family meetings, and provide detailed progress reports that reflect the child’s goals, challenges, and successes.

📚 Learning That Meets Their Level

Most of the learners we support have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and some are supported under a My Plan.

We employ a fully qualified teacher, our Learning and Development Manager, who plays an active role in helping our mentors deliver meaningful education.

They support with:

  • Delivering tailored tuition

  • Benchmarking progress

  • Setting and marking work

  • Aligning content to the national curriculum

  • Tracking EHCP outcomes

  • Raising our education standards across the board

This mix of mentoring and teaching ensures our young people are supported not just emotionally and socially, but academically too.

We want them to feel confident in their learning journey, and ready for whatever comes next.

👋 Getting Started

Our Education & Mentoring service is classed as an alternative provision, and referrals are typically made by schools, local authorities, or other education providers.

You might be referred to us if:

  • A child or young person is currently excluded from school

  • They’re awaiting a new school placement

  • Their current school cannot meet their specific needs

Every child has the right to education. We work with schools and local authorities to make sure that support continues, even when traditional classroom settings aren’t the right fit.

Once a referral is received, we’ll review the information to ensure we can meet the young person’s needs and outcomes. If we feel we're a good match, we’ll arrange a meet and greet session with the family and young person. This gives us the chance to get to know them better, talk through how the support will work, and start building a positive relationship before any sessions begin.

We believe early connection is key, and this first meeting is a big part of making sure things feel right from the start.

🕒 When We're Open

Our Education & Mentoring provision runs during term time only:

Monday to Friday: 9:00am – 3:30pm

Sessions take place at our dedicated space in Gloucester and are tailored to suit each learner’s unique needs.

As we are an alternative provision, we can offer up to 15 hours per week of education and mentoring for each young person. This is in line with Ofsted regulations and allows us to provide focused, high-impact support while remaining fully compliant.

Sessions are typically delivered as either:

  • Three full days per week (5 hours per day), or

  • Five shorter sessions per week (3 hours per day - either mornings or afternoons)

This structure helps us stay within the 15-hour limit while providing flexible options for families. Final arrangements can be discussed and agreed during the meet and greet session once a referral is received.
